Sri Kans Mardini Temple is situated on the way approaching Alaknanda, in Bhaktiyana area of the town. It is said remainders from Sati's body have been fallen at this place when Lord Shiva approached Badrikashram with Sati's corpse (Goddess Sati as Shiva's wife) as she had plunged into Yagya Kund.

A Yagya Kunda is an open tank-shape, low height temporary construction in which the ritual sacrifice in form of grains, ghee, seeds, flowers, fruits, etc. are offered in the burning fire to gratify the deity for a specific purpose.

Yagya organised at Daksha's place was a big event and it was where her father Daksha failed to offer a due hospitality and respect to her husband Lord Shiva and as a result Sati could not stand to this incident and sacrificed her body into the Yagya Kund catching herself with fire to end her bodily existence.

In the central part of of the main Kans Mardini Temple, goddess Sati is being worshipped where the remainders believed to have fallen. This part is covered and nobody can see it. Also, there is no idol in this temple. However, there is a statue of Kalika Mata outside the temple towards east.
